Take the Combo Lift (€26/€13) instead if you'd rather not climb 251 steps, and only add a Fast-Track Pass (€32/€16) on genuinely busy days.
One rule that saves the most money: if the rooftop terraces don't interest you, skip every "Combo" or "Fast-Track" product — the plain Duomo + Museum ticket at €10 covers the cathedral interior and museum for a third of the price.
The nine ticket types explained
All tickets are issued by the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, the institution that has built and maintained the cathedral since 1387. Since 1 April 2025, most tickets are valid for two days — the chosen date plus the following day — with one admission per included area.
- Duomo + Museum — cathedral interior, Duomo Museum and Church of San Gottardo. No terraces. (Sold as a cheaper "Duomo only" ticket on Wednesdays, when the museum is closed.)
- Culture Pass — cathedral, archaeological area, Crypt of Saint Charles, museum and San Gottardo. No terraces; reduced rate extends to students under 26.
- Combo Stairs — cathedral, rooftop terraces on foot (≈251 steps), museum and San Gottardo.
- Combo Lift — cathedral, rooftop by lift (first level only — the top and every descent are on foot), museum and San Gottardo.
- Fast-Track Rooftops (by lift) — a priority security lane plus terraces by lift only, no cathedral or museum.
- Fast-Track Combo Lift — everything above plus a priority security lane and terraces by lift.
- Rooftops only (stairs or lift) — terrace access alone, no cathedral interior.
- Archaeological Area and Crypt of Saint Charles — standalone add-ons that require a cathedral ticket.
- Duomo + Ambrosiana — the most complete combo: cathedral, archaeological area, terraces on foot, museum, plus the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana and Crypt of San Sepolcro. Valid 72 hours, longer than any other product.

Prices did not rise for 2026 — the governing tariff is the Veneranda Fabbrica's "Access updates," effective 1 April 2025, and service/pre-sale fees were abolished the same day, so official-site and ticket-desk prices are now identical.

Reduced tickets apply to ages 6–18 (and, for the Culture Pass, students under 26 with ID) — generally 50% off. Free admission (ID required at the ticket desk): children under 6, visitors with disabilities plus one companion, and military personnel. There is no senior/65+ discount. On Wednesdays the museum and San Gottardo are closed, so the Duomo + Museum ticket is sold as the cheaper "Duomo only" fare above.

Opening hours (2026)
Tourist access can be reduced or paused during weekday Masses (07:00, 08:00, 09:30, 11:00, 12:30, 17:30, more on Sundays) and on major feast days — the complex is closed to tourists on the mornings of 1 January and 25 December.
Is Fast-Track worth it?
There are effectively two queues on a busy day: one to buy a ticket, one at security. Buying any timed ticket online already removes the first. Fast-Track adds a reserved security lane and a faster route to the terrace lift.
Realistic waits: on peak summer weekends the ticket desk can run 60–120 minutes and security another 20–30, with the standard terrace lift adding up to 45 minutes more. Off-season weekday mornings, waits are minimal.
Verdict: upgrade to Fast-Track in peak season, on weekends and holidays, or if arriving 10:30–14:00. Below that threshold — November to March weekdays outside Christmas — it rarely earns back its premium. A cheaper way to beat crowds without paying for Fast-Track: book Combo Stairs or Combo Lift for the first 09:00 slot.

No product, official or third-party, skips the airport-style security screening itself — Fast-Track only shortens the wait to reach it.

Official portal: ticket.duomomilano.it, run by the Veneranda Fabbrica, no service fees since 1 April 2025. Limitations: only English and Italian, availability opens roughly three months out, and tickets are generally non-refundable.
Authorized resellers — GetYourGuide and Tiqets: same official prices, sold under license from the Veneranda Fabbrica. Advantages: 20+ languages, availability 12+ months ahead, and free cancellation on most products (typically up to 24 hours before). The Fabbrica warns against unaffiliated "duomo-tickets"-style domains that resell at 30–50% markups — check the official Authorized Resellers list before buying anywhere else.
On-site: Ticket Office 1 / Sala delle Colonne (Piazza Duomo 14/A) and the Duomo Museum ticket office (Piazza Duomo 12), open daily roughly 09:00–18:00 — expect the longest queues here in season.
Guided tours typically run €35–€60 per adult and include fast-track entry. The Veneranda Fabbrica's own official 90-minute guided tour of the cathedral, archaeological area and rooftops is €35 full / €23 reduced.

Duomo Museum (Palazzo Reale)
About 26 rooms of original statues, stained glass, tapestries and reliquaries, plus the wooden scale models used across the cathedral's construction — including the Tiburio model — tracing 600 years of building work. The ticket also includes the Gothic Church of San Gottardo in Corte next door.
Archaeological area — San Giovanni alle Fonti
Beneath the parvis, the octagonal Baptistery of San Giovanni alle Fonti was built in 378 AD — Saint Ambrose baptised Saint Augustine here in 387, when Milan was capital of the Western Roman Empire. Nearby lie the remains of the Basilica of Santa Tecla, roughly 4 m below street level.

Shoulders and knees covered, no hats inside — not just the nave. Refused visitors get no refund; disposable cover-ups sell at ticket offices for about €3.
No bag storage on site
Airport-style checks, no large bags, suitcases or helmets, and no cloakroom at the Duomo — use off-site storage near the piazza (roughly €5–€8/day).
The lift only reaches Level 1
Roughly 50–80 more steps reach the top terrace, and everyone — lift or stairs — descends on foot.
Accessibility
Step-free ramps at the parvis; a free wheelchair can be requested at the DuomoInfopoint. Wheelchair access via the South Lift reaches the first terrace only, daily 10:00–17:00.
